Science Fiction and Thinking about the Future Locally and Globally

This study stems from the problem that science fiction and future studies, although they are characterized by a high degree of know-how to anticipate alternative scenes of the future, this knowledge did not support their systematic integration. We argue that as futures studies can support science fiction with their methodological approaches, science fiction can support futures studies. This paper looks to crystallize a vision of two overlapping problems related to the naming of science fiction itself. The first deals with the problem of the relationship between fiction and science fiction, while the second addresses the problem of the relationship between science and science fiction. Finally, we link the topic of science fiction to Arab contexts, and to the future of science and technology, especially in light of the developments and challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic
