Three Stages of Arab World Demographic Transition

Volume 5-|Issue 5| Oct 2020 |Research Papers

Abstract

Contrary to prevailing views of Arab society demographics, this study posits a thesis based on three stages instead of just two stages: demographic transition stage, then reverse demographic transition, and finally the return to demographic transition. While the study considers that the stagnant stage of the demographic transition, or even the demographic counter-transition, does not bode well for Arab countries, just as it stresses the disastrous economic and social impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic, it calls for mobilizing the Arab scientific demographic community to create appropriate projection models that take account of new demographic effects and go beyond the current outdated scenarios, whether of states or international organizations.
